Technical Manager – Automotive and Industrial

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source organization seeking a Technical Manager - Automotive and Industrial to lead engineering initiatives at the intersection of Linux, embedded systems, and automotive compliance. This is a globally remote role where you will build and guide a distributed team focused on adapting enterprise-grade open-source solutions to meet rigorous automotive and industrial certification requirements.

Our client is bridging open-source innovation with industry-specific standards, enabling sectors like automotive and industrial manufacturing to leverage modern Linux platforms—from factory floor to cloud infrastructure. You will represent this technology in industry consortia and drive product roadmaps that balance compliance, security, and developer experience.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Management to define and execute the automotive engineering vision and roadmap
• Lead a globally distributed team of software engineers; provide coaching, mentorship, and hands-on technical guidance
• Represent the organization in automotive and industrial communities, standards consortia, and with key customers and partners
• Oversee Linux distribution and embedded software strategy tailored to automotive use cases
• Ensure products and development processes align with automotive and industrial standards including ISO 21434, ISO 26262, UNECE R155/R156, IEC 61508, ISO 9001, and ASPICE
• Set and manage cross-functional expectations with engineering teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders
• Champion modern agile practices and cultivate a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture
• Drive timely delivery of high-quality, secure, and compliant software solutions

What We're Looking For

• Strong software engineering background with deep expertise in Linux and open-source ecosystems
• In-depth knowledge of Linux packaging, embedded development, and automotive software trends
• Demonstrable experience with automotive and industrial safety standards (ISO 21434, ISO 26262, SOTIF, IEC 61508); proven track record leading compliant product development
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming
• Practical experience in automotive domains including functional safety, embedded systems, and cloud integration
• Proven leadership in managing, coaching, and mentoring software development teams
• History of delivering projects on time with high quality and attention to detail
• Experience working in agile development environments
• Passion for developing talent and building effective, motivated teams
• Willingness to travel internationally up to twice per year for company events (approximately two weeks per trip)
