About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential food technology client in London, England, seeking a Software Engineer II - Full-Stack to join their growing engineering organization. Our client operates a high-scale marketplace platform serving millions of users daily, and this role offers significant technical ownership and career growth potential.
As a mid-level engineer, you'll contribute to meaningful technical initiatives both within your immediate team and across the broader engineering organization. Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain full-stack web applications that operate at significant scale (20k+ requests per minute)
- Improve code structure and architecture, conducting code reviews across the team's codebase
- Own larger technical projects from design through implementation, making key technical and architectural decisions
- Simplify maintenance and operation of production systems, enhancing visibility, operational readiness, and system health
- Build collaborative relationships with other engineering teams and identify cross-functional opportunities
- Influence the technical roadmap within your team based on business needs and technical considerations
- Participate in the hiring process, conducting technical interviews for engineering candidates
- Support the personal growth and development of colleagues, fostering efficiency and skill development
What We're Looking For
Our client emphasizes that they don't expect candidates to meet every requirement below, but would value experience in several of these areas:
- Strong commitment to readable, well-designed, well-tested software engineering practices
- Experience building web-based applications in modern languages (Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, Rust, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Demonstrated experience with web architecture at scale, supporting high-traffic production systems
- Familiarity with NoSQL data backends and caching technologies (Redis, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, Memcache)
- Interest in or experience solving complex logistical and operational problems through software
- Ability to lead technical initiatives while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
