Support Engineer Firewall & Netzwerk (m/w/d)

We are representing a confidential IT services organization based in Coburg, Germany, seeking a Support Engineer specializing in Firewall and Network technologies.

This is an opportunity to move beyond generalist IT work and develop focused expertise in firewall and network infrastructure. You'll analyze incidents, configure firewalls, switches, and access points, and support diverse network environments across multiple client organizations. This multi-client exposure provides accelerated practical experience with various vendors and configurations compared to traditional in-house IT roles.

Responsibilities

• Receive, analyze, and resolve network and firewall incidents and requests via telephone, email, and ticketing system
• Configure and maintain firewalls including rule sets, NAT, and VPN (technologies include Sophos Firewall and Fortinet FortiGate)
• Administer network components such as switches and access points (Ubiquiti UniFi, Fortinet, Sophos)
• Set up and support site-to-site and client VPN connections
• Analyze network issues involving DNS, DHCP, VLAN, and routing alongside client technical teams
• Document configurations, changes, and solutions according to quality standards
• Provide technical escalation support to service desk colleagues on network and firewall topics
• Collaborate with senior support engineers on complex issues and projects
• Work within defined processes and quality frameworks

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Completed IT vocational training (such as Fachinformatiker/in Systemintegration) or equivalent practical experience
• Professional experience in IT support, service desk, or system administration
• Foundational understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLAN, routing, DNS, DHCP)
• Initial hands-on experience with firewalls (Sophos or Fortinet) and/or network components (such as Ubiquiti UniFi)
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows client operating systems
• Enjoyment of technical problem analysis and interest in specializing in network and security environments
• Service-oriented and customer-focused mindset
• Independent and structured working style
• Excellent German language skills and good English proficiency

Advantageous:

• Experience in managed service provider or systems integrator environments
• Knowledge of Sophos Central, FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer, or UniFi Network Controller
• Vendor certifications (Sophos Certified Engineer, Fortinet NSE 4, Cisco CCNA)
• Basic knowledge of Windows Server environments, Active Directory, or Microsoft 365
• Exposure to virtualization platforms (Hyper-V or VMware)
• ITIL knowledge or certifications
• Class B driving license
