Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI research organization seeking Fellows for a 4-month, full-time research program focused on Economics and Policy. This is an opportunity to conduct meaningful research under direct mentorship from senior researchers.

As a Fellow, you will:

• Conduct empirical research on AI's economic and societal effects using external data sources
• Develop methodological approaches for studying AI's impact on labor markets and the future of work
• Analyze security considerations including offense-defense balance for AI-enabled capabilities
• Measure model performance improvements and identify early warning signals for advanced AI development
• Investigate market-driven mechanisms that could improve societal resilience to AI-related challenges
• Produce public outputs such as paper submissions, with over 80% of previous Fellows publishing research
• Collaborate with researchers in weekly discussions and project reviews
• Primarily use external infrastructure including open-source models and public APIs

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Fluency in Python programming
• Availability to work full-time for 4 months (January 2027 start expected; flexibility may be available)
• Work authorization in the US, UK, or Canada and ability to remain in that country during the program
• Strong track record of empirical research

Ideal candidates will have:

• Interest in economics or policy research (prior experience is beneficial but not required)
• Adaptability and collaboration skills, able to contribute to team priorities
• Excellent written communication skills, including ability to clearly present null or unexpected results
• Passion for translating research insights into actionable recommendations for AI systems and policy
• Ability to implement ideas quickly in fast-paced environments
• Motivation to ensure AI safety and societal benefit
• Interest in transitioning into full-time AI research roles

The program includes direct mentorship from experienced researchers in economics, policy, security, and society. Fellows receive funding for compute resources (approximately $15,000/month) and other research expenses.

Pay

This is a 4-month fellowship with full-time commitment (40 hours/week). The weekly stipend is 2,310 GBP plus benefits (which vary by country). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Location: London or remote within the UK. Our client also has workspace locations available for Fellows who prefer in-person collaboration.

Visa note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this fellowship. You must independently hold full-time work authorization in the UK, US, or Canada.
