Collections Adviser

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organisation that is transforming how consumers access credit in the UK. Our client is seeking a Collections Adviser to join their growing team in Milton Keynes on a hybrid basis (3 days per week in office).

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in financial services collections. No prior experience in collections or financial services is required—our client provides comprehensive training on FCA regulation, systems, and processes. What matters most is the right attitude, strong judgement, and excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Handle multiple live customer chat conversations professionally and efficiently
• Receive and make telephone calls from customers requiring assistance with their accounts
• Support omni-channel communication including live web chat, email, SMS, and phone (inbound and outbound)
• Assess customer affordability using Open Banking software
• Agree and set affordable payment plans with customers based on their individual circumstances
• Process cases where customers are pursuing alternative debt solutions
• Set promises to pay received through digital channels
• Liaise with third-party partners including field suppliers, debt collection agencies, and insolvency portfolio managers
• Maintain accurate records and update account details consistently
• Identify and support customers who may show signs of vulnerability
• Escalate more complex or higher-risk cases to senior colleagues as needed
• Contribute analytical thinking and continuous improvement suggestions to the team

What We're Looking For

• A confident, customer-focused communicator comfortable handling sensitive or difficult conversations with empathy and professionalism
• No prior collections or financial services experience necessary—full training will be provided on FCA regulation (including CONC7), DPA requirements, and internal processes
• Willingness to learn about debt solutions including Payment Arrangements, DMPs, IVAs, Trust Deeds, DROs, and Breathing Space
• Interest in understanding customer vulnerability and how to identify and manage it
• Comfortable working with numbers and willing to learn to interpret statements and ledgers
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams)
• Very strong attention to detail and high regard for consistency
• Strong team player willing to help deliver tasks within team SLAs
• Comfortable working towards KPIs, targets, and quality assurance requirements
