Principal Cloud Engineer (Multiple)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cloud consultancy in their search for multiple Principal Cloud Engineers to join their growing team in London. Our client works with major public and private sector organisations, delivering secure, production-ready cloud platforms at enterprise scale. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll design and build infrastructure foundations, drive customer transformations, and mentor engineering teams.

Location: London, with flexibility to work onsite up to 3 days per week depending on customer requirements. Travel frequency varies from 0-3 days weekly based on project needs.

Security Clearance: SC clearance is required. You do not need active clearance when applying, but you must be eligible to pass SC clearance checks. DV clearance eligibility is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead technical strategy across enterprise-scale cloud platforms with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code modularisation
• Design and build secure, production-ready platform and infrastructure foundations for regulated environments
• Automate complex platforms using Terraform and modern IaC practices
• Package services into AMIs, Docker containers, or serverless architectures
• Work directly with customers, driving cloud transformations from inception through delivery
• Apply site reliability engineering best practices and shape mature security models
• Mentor engineers and elevate technical standards across cross-functional teams

What We're Looking For

• Deep understanding of platform and infrastructure engineering concepts, with the ability to articulate why architectural decisions matter beyond just implementation details
• Experience with multi-account, multi-tenant, or landing zone patterns in any major cloud platform
• Strong hands-on Terraform and automation skills with clear, defensible opinions on IaC structure and modularisation
• Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring engineers at various levels
• Strong cloud platform knowledge with sound judgement for service selection. Deep AWS expertise is highly beneficial, though exceptional engineers from Azure, GCP, or multi-cloud backgrounds are equally valued
• Experience operating cloud platforms at scale, ideally within regulated industries
• Solid grasp of secure, scalable, and resilient architecture, including prevention, detection, and remediation of security risks
• Awareness of SRE principles and operational priorities, plus experience with CI/CD pipelines and system design
• Depth in networking, data, and identity domains is strongly valued
• Genuine curiosity about technology, demonstrated through personal projects, home automation, or continuous learning beyond work requirements

Pay

The client offers £95,000 – £130,000 plus discretionary bonus, additional security clearance bonuses for certain clearance levels, periodic share option schemes, and comprehensive benefits including 25 days annual leave, 5 additional training days, pension contributions, life assurance, and health support programs.
