PCB Layout Engineer / Leiterplattenentwickler:in (all genders)

Your Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential aerospace engineering organization developing next-generation electric propulsion systems. As a PCB Layout Engineer, you will own the physical design of printed circuit boards for high-voltage battery and power-distribution hardware. You'll transform engineering intent into flight-ready, manufacturable, and certifiable designs.

Your day-to-day work includes:

• Designing, routing, and iterating multilayer PCB layouts from schematics, netlists, and engineering requirements
• Defining and documenting PCB stack-ups, controlled-impedance geometries, and reference-plane strategies with hardware engineers
• Performing ECAD–MCAD co-design including STEP exchange, board-outline definition, and component placement against enclosure and thermal constraints
• Applying high-voltage layout discipline—creepage, clearance, isolation barriers, and spacing—in line with IPC-2221 and aerospace battery system requirements
• Engineering for signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, manufacturability, and thermal management using thermal vias and heavy-copper constructions
• Creating and governing the PCB component library (symbols, footprints, 3D models) according to IPC standards
• Ensuring compliance with IPC-2221, IPC-7351, IPC-6012 Class 3, and other relevant standards
• Producing complete fabrication and assembly data packages: Gerbers, ODB++/IPC-2581, drill files, BOMs, and assembly drawings
• Performing design rule checks, electrical rule checks, and layout-versus-schematic verification
• Collaborating with electronics and hardware engineers to implement design changes and resolve layout issues
• Partnering with PCB fabricators and assemblers on DFM/DFA feedback and supplier qualification
• Maintaining rigorous revision control, configuration management, and technical documentation

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Diploma, associate degree, or vocational qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field
• Minimum five years of hands-on PCB layout or electronics design support experience
• Proven proficiency with professional ECAD tools such as Altium Designer (preferred), OrCAD/Allegro, Zuken, Eagle, KiCad, or similar
• Strong working knowledge of IPC PCB design, fabrication, and assembly standards
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
• Solid understanding of multilayer stack-up design, controlled impedance, and PCB manufacturing technologies (rigid, flex, rigid-flex, thick-copper, metal-clad)
• High attention to detail and disciplined documentation habits
• Ability to manage multiple boards and deadlines in parallel
• Effective communication and teamwork skills in an English-speaking, cross-functional environment

Preferred qualifications:

• IPC certification such as IPC CID or CID+
• Experience with high-voltage, high-power, high-speed, HDI (microvias, blind/buried vias), or mixed-signal PCBs
• Experience designing to high-reliability or Class 3 requirements
• Familiarity with aerospace standards such as RTCA DO-160 and RTCA DO-254
• Exposure to signal-integrity/power-integrity simulation
• Familiarity with quality and compliance requirements in regulated industries (aerospace, automotive, medical)
• Awareness of thermal-management and mechanical co-design for compact, vibration- and temperature-exposed hardware

This position is based in Munich, Germany. The role is primarily in-office with flexibility for occasional remote work. Pay and benefits will be discussed during the screening process based on your experience and qualifications.
