About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI safety research organization in their search for Economics & Policy Fellows. This fully-funded research fellowship is designed to foster emerging talent in AI policy research, providing mentorship, compute resources, and a collaborative environment to produce meaningful public research outputs.

Fellows work full-time for 4 months on projects aligned with critical research priorities in AI economics, policy, and societal impact. Previous cohorts have achieved over 80% publication rates. This remote-friendly program accepts candidates from the US, UK, and Canada.

What You'll Do

• Conduct 4 months of full-time research on AI economics, policy, or security topics
• Work under direct mentorship from senior researchers in the field
• Design and execute empirical research on AI's economic effects using external data sources
• Develop methodological approaches for studying AI's impact on labor markets and society
• Analyze offense-defense dynamics for AI-enabled capabilities as models scale
• Identify market mechanisms that could improve societal resilience to AI risks
• Produce public research outputs such as papers, with full compute and research expense support
• Participate in weekly mentorship sessions and collaborative research discussions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Fluency in Python programming
• Availability for full-time work (40 hours/week for 4 months, possible extension)
• Work authorization in the US, UK, or Canada (visa sponsorship not available)
• Must be physically located in US, UK, or Canada during the program

Ideal candidates have:

• Interest in economics or policy research (prior experience helpful but not required)
• Strong track record of empirical research
• Adaptability and collaboration skills; able to contribute to team priorities
• Excellent writing and communication abilities, including presenting null or unexpected results
• Ability to implement ideas quickly in fast-paced environments
• Passion for translating research into actionable recommendations for AI systems and policy
• Motivation to ensure AI is safe and beneficial for society
• Interest in transitioning into AI research careers

Pay

Weekly stipend via Get A Job.ai: $3,850 USD / £2,310 GBP / $4,300 CAD (based on location), plus benefits that vary by country. The program also provides approximately $15,000/month in compute funding and covers other research expenses.

Expected commitment: 40 hours per week for 4 months (with possible extension).
