Expert Backend Engineer (Get Discovered)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential SaaS organization serving entrepreneurs and small businesses across Europe. We're searching for an Expert Backend Engineer to join their Get Discovered product team — a group focused on helping customers optimize their online presence, improve search visibility, and track business performance.

This is a technical leadership role for an individual contributor who can drive architecture, system design, and engineering excellence. While your primary strength will be in backend systems, you'll contribute across the full product surface, including frontend work where needed. This is a remote-first position based in Germany.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve scalable, reliable systems across backend, frontend, and data layers
• Lead architectural decisions, define engineering standards, and drive Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
• Own complex technical initiatives end-to-end, translating business goals into actionable technical roadmaps
• Contribute meaningfully across the product stack to deliver complete customer outcomes, including frontend implementation when needed
• Mentor engineers and elevate technical excellence through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and best practices
• Champion AI-assisted engineering workflows and help teams leverage AI-first development practices
• Drive improvements in testing, CI/CD, observability, system reliability, and operational excellence
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering leadership to influence strategy
• Manage operational and technical dependencies with external vendors and partners, including workspace platforms, domain providers, and marketing technology partners

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of engineering experience in product-led environments, including experience operating at technical lead, staff, or principal level
• Deep backend expertise with technologies such as Kotlin, Java, or Node.js
• Strong experience designing APIs, distributed systems, service architectures, integrations, and reliable production systems
• Solid frontend capability with React and TypeScript — you should be able to contribute meaningfully to frontend implementation and technical discussions
• Proven track record leading large-scale architectural, platform, integration, or modernization initiatives
• Deep understanding of software architecture, testing strategies, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence
• Strong experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and influencing technical direction across multiple teams
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to mentor and guide engineers
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or similar technologies
• Experience establishing engineering standards and best practices across an organization
• Passion for building products that help entrepreneurs and small businesses succeed
• Based in Germany with legal authorization to work
