Director of Software Engineering

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cybersecurity training organization in their search for a Director of Software Engineering. This is a strategic leadership role overseeing platform engineering, DevOps, and a critical enterprise modernization initiative. You'll lead multiple engineering teams, drive architectural standards, and partner across Product, Operations, and Sales to deliver secure, scalable systems that serve hundreds of thousands of users globally.

This is a remote position based in the United States. Our client does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must have unrestricted authorization to work in the USA.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor engineering teams through managers and leads, balancing capacity against evolving business priorities
• Own engineering standards, CI/CD pipelines, secure development practices, and architecture governance across the organization
• Direct a large-scale modernization program spanning enrollment, entitlement, identity, and product administration systems
• Drive cross-functional coordination with Product, Operations, Finance, and Sales to translate strategy into maintainable platforms
• Oversee vendor relationships, software procurement, licensing decisions, and engineering budgets
• Establish metrics for engineering effectiveness and lead continuous improvement initiatives
• Champion incident management discipline and maintain transparent communication with executive stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams and 3+ years managing through managers or leads
• Proven track record leading large, multi-team modernization or systems-integration programs from design through delivery
• Strong technical background with hands-on development experience and ability to guide architectural decisions across services and integrations
• Experience with modern AI development techniques and best practices
• Hands-on experience with enterprise business systems (Salesforce/Service Cloud, identity providers, payment platforms)
• Deep familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS), DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure as code
• Experience managing vendor relationships and software budgets
• Proficiency with Agile methodologies and modern SDLC practices
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting

Preferred qualifications:

• Background in education technology, training platforms, or certification systems
• Experience facilitating architecture governance (councils, RFC processes, engineering standards)
• Familiarity with identity and access management platforms and entitlement modeling
• Experience integrating AI-assisted development tooling with appropriate governance
• Security-first mindset and secure coding practices
• Passion for developing both individuals and teams

Pay

The expected salary range for this position is $200,000 to $240,000 OTE (on-target earnings, comprised of base salary and bonus), depending on geographic location, skills, and experience.
