Engineering Manager, Maps & Search – US

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential proptech organization that is building next-generation search and discovery experiences for real estate professionals. This is a hands-on Engineering Manager role leading the Maps & Search team—one of the highest-traffic, most visible product surfaces in the platform, handling over a billion requests monthly.

Our client doesn't just use AI as a feature. Their engineering teams use AI agents daily to write, review, and ship production code. They are building toward a world where humans design systems and AI builds them, and they are already far along that path. This role is for a manager who leads from the front: someone who still lives in their terminal with AI, has strong opinions about how AI changes the software development lifecycle, and wants to amplify what a small, senior, AI-augmented team can accomplish.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Maps & Search team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, 1:1s, direct feedback, and career development
• Stay hands-on with code and design reviews, architecture decisions, and complex debugging while making smart trade-off calls
• Own and scale a high-throughput search platform handling approximately 1 billion monthly requests and hundreds of millions of listings
• Deliver a world-class home search experience across web and mobile, improving engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows while maintaining speed and responsiveness at scale
• Push forward AI-powered discovery by partnering across teams to bring LLMs and intelligent ranking into search and user workflows
• Shape the roadmap with product and design teams, translating user needs and business goals into clear technical plans
• Own delivery end to end including planning, quality, reliability, and incident response

• You think in systems and connect technical decisions to customer outcomes and business value
• You communicate clearly and directly, able to explain complex tradeoffs to product, design, and executive stakeholders
• You're energized by ambiguity and speed, thriving in fast-growing environments where ownership is real

Required Experience:

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful senior or staff-level time
• 2+ years managing engineering teams
• Search experience—you've worked on search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems and understand how to make them better
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React with full-stack fluency to reason about the entire request path from UI to data
• Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred)
• Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems (Kafka), and databases (PostgreSQL, OpenSearch)
• Proven track record operating high-traffic, low-latency production systems at scale including SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning
• Experience leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment
