Japanese Transcription Expert – Remote | Upto $33/hr

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI research organization seeking Japanese language experts for remote document annotation and transcription work. This contract role offers the flexibility of fully remote work while contributing to cutting-edge AI training projects.

Responsibilities

• Source publicly accessible Japanese PDF documents containing multimodal elements and maintain accurate records of their origins
• Annotate document structure by identifying and bounding meaningful regions, assigning component types and establishing reading-order indices
• Map relationships between regions and parent components such as figures and tables
• Transcribe content with complete accuracy, reproducing all text exactly as it appears including kanji, hiragana, katakana, and handwritten characters
• Document page metadata including language, document type, source information, page dimensions, and flags for special content like tables and handwriting
• Perform peer review by conducting end-to-end quality checks of work completed by other Japanese language experts

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Native Japanese speaker with complete mastery of kanji, hiragana, and katakana
• Professional background in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, or editorial work
• Exceptional character-level accuracy with a focus on precision over speed
• Systematic mindset capable of applying taxonomies consistently across varied documents
• Comfort working with diverse layouts including vertical text and multi-column newspaper formats

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AI training data annotation, labeling, or bilingual evaluation projects
• Background in transcription and localization, including MTPE, subtitling, and OCR correction
• Document production experience such as typesetting, copy-editing, or proofreading
• Knowledge of script and encoding systems, including Unicode normalization and Japanese input methods
