Android Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking an Android Engineer to join their team in Cardiff. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a consumer banking application used by millions of people daily, building features that directly impact how customers manage their finances.

Our client operates in small, interdisciplinary product squads where you'll collaborate with iOS engineers, backend engineers, user researchers, designers, product managers, QA testers, and data scientists. You'll own outcomes rather than just features, having real influence over both what gets built and how it's built.

Responsibilities

• Build and iterate on polished user experiences within a native Android application
• Work autonomously within a product squad focused on achieving overall company goals
• Balance well-tested, resilient code with the need to move quickly and iterate
• Contribute to both product features and platform improvements that enable other engineers
• Participate in weekly Android discipline meetings to discuss tools, techniques, and continuous improvement
• Collaborate on code reviews through GitHub Pull Requests
• Write unit tests, Compose screen tests, and end-to-end flow tests
• Turn excellent design into beautiful, functional products
• Make data-informed decisions that optimize for customer outcomes

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience programming in Kotlin
• Proven track record of shipping and iterating on at least one app in the Play Store
• Product mindset with focus on customer outcomes over lines of code written
• Passion for transforming excellent design into beautiful user experiences
• Comfort working in environments that deal with ambiguity
• Understanding of computer science principles
• Experience with modern Android development practices (the tech stack includes Compose, MVVM, Coroutines, Retrofit, Dagger/Metro, Room)

Technical environment: The application is 100% Kotlin, built using MVVM architecture with Coordinators, approximately 95% in Compose. The codebase uses Coroutines, Retrofit, Dagger (migrating to Metro), Room for persistence, and is modularized by product feature.

Location: Cardiff, UK. UK Remote work is supported with flexible working arrangements. The organization values in-person connection but doesn't mandate office attendance.
