Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential defense technology client seeking a Senior Quality Systems Engineer to join their London operations. In this role, you will develop and execute a world-class quality management system across internal manufacturing sites, supplier facilities, and allied locations.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Leading the development and execution of the QMS and its top-level processes, coordinating internal and external audits
- Managing QMS software implementation and adoption across multiple sites, including the London facility
- Ensuring full compliance with UK MOD Defence Standards (DEF STANs), UKCA marking requirements, and HSE regulations for defense manufacturing
- Driving compliance with NATO Standardization Agreements (STANAGs) for aerospace quality, including STANAG 4107, 4159, 4161, 4404, and 4685
- Ensuring conformance to associated AQAPs (AQAP-2110, AQAP-2210, AQAP-2310) for aerospace and software-intensive systems
- Liaising with UK MOD Quality Assurance representatives, Defence Quality Assurance (DQA) organisation, and NATO quality authorities
- Partnering with cross-functional teams to prepare new processes, digital tools, and sites to meet QMS requirements
- Developing the internal QMS roadmap to match company scaling, with attention to UK Export Control and regulatory interface requirements
- Managing the QMS internal audit program and leading internal audits
- Communicating with UKAS-accredited certification bodies and NATO quality assurance authorities
- Driving root cause analysis and corrective action for audit findings, including UK MOD and NATO audit results
- Supporting development of QMS training modules, including UK/NATO-specific regulatory and STANAG training
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 3–5 years of experience in aerospace and/or defence manufacturing
- Expert knowledge of QMS requirements and auditing in complex product environments, with one or more of: ISO 9001:2015, AS9100D, AS9110C, AS9120B, AS6500, IATF 16949:2016, ISO 13485:2016, TL 9000 R6.3
- Demonstrable knowledge of NATO STANAGs for aerospace quality (STANAG 4107, 4159, 4161) and their associated AQAPs (AQAP-2110, AQAP-2210, AQAP-2310)
- Familiarity with UK MOD Defence Standards (DEF STANs) and Government Quality Assurance (GQA) processes
- Understanding of UK regulatory frameworks relevant to defence manufacturing, including UK Export Control Act 2002, HSE regulations, and UKCA/CE marking requirements
- Working knowledge with QMS software solutions such as Net Inspect, Siemens, SAP, ETQ, One Factory, MasterControl, Compliance Quest, Hexagon, PTC, or QT9
- Hands-on experience with data analytics platforms, reporting tools, and basic data visualisation
- Demonstrated project management for software system implementation and onboarding suppliers and internal users
- Working knowledge of design, development, manufacturing, supply chain, deployment, and contracts organisations
- Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Business Intelligence (BI) systems
- Strong ownership mindset with demonstrated capability to drive projects from start to completion
- Proven track record of implementation and success with QMS
- Right to work in the United Kingdom
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including travel to US facilities and NATO partner sites
