Software Architect (AWS, NodeJS) – Latin America, Remote

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential software consultancy serving clients across the United States and Latin America. We are seeking an experienced Software Architect to join their remote engineering organization. This role offers the opportunity to design mission-critical systems, influence technical direction across multiple client engagements, and mentor engineering teams in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Responsibilities

• Design low-latency service architectures on AWS, making informed decisions about distributed components including queues, caches, and search projections
• Architect systems to explicit latency budgets (p95/p99) and performance requirements, including synchronous durable commits in performance-critical paths
• Design audit and evidence systems using append-only event logs, versioned or bitemporal data models, and deterministic historical replay capabilities
• Define fail-open, fail-closed, and degraded-state semantics for production outage scenarios
• Architect secure multi-tenant environments with analysis of Row-Level Security versus schema-per-tenant versus database-per-tenant approaches
• Design and oversee implementation of scalable RESTful APIs and SDK integrations
• Build capacity models and cloud cost/performance projections aligned with AWS Well-Architected Framework
• Establish technical standards, conduct architecture and code reviews, and mentor engineering teams
• Produce architecture documentation, diagrams, and technical decision records (ADRs)
• Present and defend architecture decisions in client engineering and security review sessions

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, with 3+ years in an architecture-focused role
• Deep experience with AWS cloud architecture and distributed systems design
• Proven experience architecting systems to explicit performance and latency requirements
• Strong background in PostgreSQL/AuroraDB and Row-Level Security at both data-modeling and architecture levels
• Expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript across the full stack
• Experience designing secure multi-tenant SaaS architectures with well-reasoned isolation strategies
• Substantial background architecting large, complex systems end-to-end
• Bachelor's degree required
• Ability to overlap with US business hours
• Strong problem-solving ability and technical leadership skills
• Client-focused approach with extreme ownership and accountability
• Experience working with AI coding assistants as part of daily development workflow

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in compliance-sensitive or regulated domains (e.g., TCPA/DNC, fintech decisioning, audit-heavy systems)
• Experience with event-driven design, message queues, and caching strategies at scale
• Advanced degree
