About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential professional services organization in München that has built substantial momentum over recent years and is now professionalizing its operational infrastructure. Our client seeks a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to establish robust governance structures, assume accountability for non-technical operations, and elevate the organization alongside the Managing Partner.

This is a central management role with significant influence over the firm's operational backbone—creating clear processes, reliable steering mechanisms, and the infrastructure needed to scale efficiently in a modern professional services environment.

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Managing Partner and own operational leadership of all non-technical functions
  • Advance business control structures—particularly controlling, quality management, risk, resource allocation, and operational processes
  • Lead Finance & Controlling, leveraging KPIs, forecasts, and reports for enterprise steering
  • Establish reliable project, capacity, and headcount planning to align resources with client demand
  • Create clear governance rhythms, KPI reviews, and decision protocols; ensure agreed actions are executed
  • Oversee back-office, administration, and facility management
  • Guide HR and Marketing functions closely, supporting their leaders in professionalizing these areas
  • Collaborate with the Chief Digital & AI Officer to develop modern, digital processes—defining requirements, standards, KPIs, rollout, and organizational adoption
  • Ensure clear accountabilities, functioning interfaces, and high process discipline without excessive bureaucracy
  • Partner closely with firm leadership to translate strategic goals into concrete operational decisions

What We're Looking For

  • Substantial leadership experience from professional services, a law or audit firm, consulting, or a comparable partner-led environment
  • Proven track record not just managing but building or fundamentally advancing operational functions and control systems
  • Strong commercial and financial competence; ability to confidently lead controlling, reporting, and enterprise management
  • Experience scaling organizations professionally and creating structures that function amid increasing complexity
  • Hands-on process design skills; comfort working with data, systems, and automation; understanding of digitalization as integral to operations
  • Ability to work as peers with confident partners and executives, hold clear positions, and drive decisions through to completion
  • Leadership style characterized by clarity and pragmatism: high standards in substance, respectful and reliable in relationships
  • Entrepreneurial, independent, solution-oriented working style; no need for granular supervision
  • Tax advisor or auditor certification not required—what matters is your experience as a professional operator capable of advancing a demanding professional services organization structurally and operationally
