About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential software development organization based in Hamburg that builds large-scale, mission-critical products for enterprise clients across retail, automotive, e-commerce, and healthcare sectors. We're seeking a Security Engineer who approaches security as a fundamentally technical discipline. This role combines hands-on infrastructure work with strategic responsibility for the organization's Information Security Management System (ISMS).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement security infrastructure to support reliable, secure processes and policies
  • Write code to automate manual security tasks and operations
  • Maintain and continuously improve the ISMS, ensuring rules and regulations remain practical and helpful
  • Collaborate with the Data Protection Officer to ensure GDPR compliance
  • Develop and deliver security training programs for engineering team members
  • Support project teams in building secure infrastructure within their environments
  • Monitor, log, and alert on security events across distributed cloud systems

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong background in UNIX system administration and networking
  • Programming experience, ideally in Go
  • Demonstrated technical impact on previous projects
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to doing things correctly
  • German language proficiency (role is based in Hamburg with on-site requirements)

Bonus qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure
  • Background in observability tools (logging, monitoring, alerting, tracing)
  • Previous security-focused experience
  • Experience managing distributed cloud systems with Terraform
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines

Important: This is an on-site position in Hamburg requiring five days per week in the office. Remote work is not available.
