Principal Engineer, Growth Mega Alliance (all genders)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential subscription e-commerce organization seeking a Principal Engineer to lead technical architecture across their growth engineering platforms. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will code, review, and design alongside senior and staff engineers while setting the technical direction for customer acquisition, conversion, retention, payments, and communications systems operating across multiple markets.

You will own the organization's GenAI strategy, identifying high-leverage opportunities where AI and ML unlock step-change outcomes in both engineering productivity and customer-facing capabilities. You will establish agentic development workflows—where specifications drive AI-assisted code generation—and scale them from early adopters to standard practice, building the guardrails and reference architectures that enable teams to work AI-natively.

As the technical visionary for growth platforms, you will define long-term architecture encompassing real-time personalization, experimentation at scale, AI and ML-driven automation, and cross-platform data integrity. You will lead the most complex architectural decisions including shared identity schemas, experiment assignment, ad technology signal loops, and payment authorization flows, driving large-impact migrations while ensuring platforms integrate cleanly with internal infrastructure and meet reliability, latency, and observability requirements at global scale.

You will define the experimentation strategy and execution framework, owning the complete data path from customer event to business decision—instrumentation standards, identity resolution, attribution windows, and signal quality. You will partner with other engineering teams to drive shared architectural standards and prevent fragmentation, while representing growth engineering in company-wide programs.

Mentorship is central to this role. You will coach and grow staff and senior engineers across all platform areas, fostering engineering excellence through rigorous design review, strong observability practice, and honest post-incident learning. You will champion AI-native development workflows, test-driven development, domain-driven design, and DevSecOps, setting the written communication standard through your design documents and architectural decision records.

What We're Looking For

GenAI and Agentic Engineering: Practical, hands-on experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools in production or near-production environments—not just experimentation. Experience integrating GenAI into customer-facing products or internal business processes at scale, with a clear point of view on the team and cultural changes required to realize productivity gains.

Growth Domain Expertise: Deep familiarity with at least two of the following: ad technology and paid media infrastructure, funnel optimization, payment orchestration, CRM and lifecycle communications, or pricing and incentive optimization. You should be fluent in growth domain constraints including payment service provider behavior, consent and privacy requirements across markets, deliverability limits, attribution windows, and incrementality measurement. Experience in a multi-market subscription or e-commerce business is preferred.

Technical Depth: Approximately ten or more years in software engineering, with around five or more years at principal level in a high-growth, cloud-native environment. Expert knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven patterns including Kafka. Deep AWS experience required. Strong proficiency in Go, Kotlin, Python, or TypeScript. A proven track record of designing and operating large-scale, multi-region systems, with comfort doing hands-on architectural reviews and solving critical bottlenecks directly. Working knowledge of experimentation design and analysis, with ability to work directly with data using SQL and BI tooling, tracing the full signal chain from instrumentation to business metric.

Ability to influence without authority, with a direct, low-ego approach and comfort disagreeing with senior stakeholders while keeping relationships intact. Fluent English required; German is a bonus.
