Software Engineer, Platform – Hamburg, Germany

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Software Engineer to join their Platform team in Hamburg. In this role, you will design, build, and own critical backend APIs that power payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and public-facing services serving tens of millions of users across multiple platforms.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Taking ownership of backend services—including those you didn't originally write—and making them faster, more cost-efficient, and more reliable
• Establishing correctness before shipping changes and implementing checks that maintain system integrity over time
• Automating repeatable aspects of your role to free up capacity for higher-impact work
• Creating reusable systems and processes that enable the entire team to move faster
• Designing B2B and enterprise integrations for external customers building on top of the platform
• Collaborating with product, mobile, and web teams to ensure backend architecture stays ahead of product roadmap needs

What We're Looking For

Our client operates in an environment where correctness compounds. Subscription state must remain consistent across multiple clients and billing systems. Consumption metering must be precise enough to bill accurately while remaining cost-effective at scale. Public APIs have external dependencies where latency and uptime are non-negotiable.

The ideal candidate brings:

• Proven backend engineering experience with TypeScript and Node.js (required)
• Direct hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or similar cloud environments
• A track record of delegating or automating work you previously owned, with evidence of what you built with the freed capacity
• Active daily use of AI tooling in your workflow—you should be able to describe in detail what runs unattended, what you review, and where you've set guardrails
• The instinct to verify results against actual system state—logs, database records, live requests—rather than relying on summaries or abstractions
• Strong judgment about what not to build and the ability to articulate why you chose not to pursue certain approaches
• A preference for being corrected over being right
• Preferred: experience with Docker and containerized deployments
• Preferred: experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes

This is a fully remote position based in Hamburg, Germany. The work environment is 100% distributed with no physical office.
