About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential AI technology client experiencing exceptional growth in the intellectual property sector. Our talent team is searching for a Data Engineer to architect and operate the ingestion and search infrastructure that powers their platform.
This role offers end-to-end ownership of data systems processing global patent literature, case law, technical standards, scientific databases, and web content across structured records, documents, images, audio, and video formats.
Responsibilities
- Design and operate high-throughput, resumable pipelines for large-scale dataset ingestion with efficient incremental updates, monitoring, and failure recovery
- Extract structured content from complex documents and varied formats while handling malformed records, evolving schemas, and validating outputs
- Build and maintain keyword, vector, and structured search systems with optimized schemas, indexes, and partitioning for queries across tens to hundreds of millions of records
- Connect information across disparate sources, linking patents, scientific records, and supporting documents while preserving dates, versions, and traceability
- Profile and optimize parsing, ingestion, database builds, and queries against representative datasets at production scale
- Diagnose CPU, memory, and storage I/O bottlenecks, tuning jobs and infrastructure for throughput, latency, and cost efficiency
- Collaborate closely with AI researchers and product engineers with substantial autonomy in technical approach
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements:
- Strong Python and SQL expertise with demonstrated experience designing and operating production databases
- Proven track record building and operating production data pipelines over large, complex datasets
- Deep expertise running search systems over large document collections
- End-to-end ownership mindset from raw data acquisition through user-facing functionality
- Solid understanding of schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization
- Demonstrated ability diagnosing and resolving performance bottlenecks in live systems through profiling and measurement
Nice to Have:
- Experience with PostgreSQL/pgvector, OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, Spark/Delta Lake, AWS infrastructure
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases or systems programming languages like Rust or C++
