VP Engineering (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization based in Berlin that is building AI-enabled software for clinical teams. Our talent team is seeking a VP Engineering to build and lead the engineering organization behind their AI platform.

This is a hands-on leadership role with end-to-end ownership of engineering delivery, architecture, technical quality, and team culture. You'll turn product requirements and validated AI concepts into reliable, scalable software that supports clinical decision-making in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the engineering organization from the ground up
• Own engineering delivery from architecture through production deployment
• Translate product requirements into pragmatic technical designs and execution plans
• Establish and maintain high standards for quality, reliability, security, and engineering excellence
• Remain hands-on through architecture decisions, critical implementation work, and technical leadership
• Scale engineering teams, processes, and technical foundations as the product grows

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience building and leading engineering teams in fast-moving product companies
• Track record of taking products from prototype to production while scaling teams and infrastructure from early stage through growth
• Strong engineering judgment across modern Python-based backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems
• Experience building and operating LLM or agentic systems in production, including evaluation frameworks, guardrails, and failure handling
• Proficiency with modern AI coding tools as part of your engineering workflow, with ability to review and quality-control AI-generated code
• Evidence of making fast, high-quality decisions under ambiguity, including strategic decisions about what not to build
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Experience in healthcare, clinical workflows, FHIR, regulated or safety-critical software, or enterprise deployments is a strong advantage but not required
• German language skills are a plus but not required

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive for this level of role in the Berlin market, including equity participation.
