Staff Software Engineer, Android

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential aerospace technology organization seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Android for their South East Hampshire location. In this role, you will take full ownership of the Android application for a mature consumer product with an active daily user base.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Own the Android app for a production consumer product, building new features, implementing refinements, and maintaining feature alignment with the iOS platform
• Make architectural decisions balancing cross-platform parity with Android-specific conventions, and articulate your technical reasoning
• Manage the complete release lifecycle including Play Store deployments, crash triage, and performance optimization across diverse Android hardware
• Contribute to additional projects across mobile, web applications, and internal tooling as opportunities arise within the organization
• Work with AI-assisted development workflows as standard practice, utilizing modern agentic coding tools in your daily workflow

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with substantial focus on user-facing client software shipped through the Play Store
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
• Strong Kotlin expertise and practical Jetpack Compose experience
• Demonstrated 0→1 product experience—you've built the first version of something, not just contributed to existing codebases
• Comfort working in ambiguous environments without fully-scoped requirements
• Ability to read Swift code regularly to maintain platform parity

Bonus qualifications:

• Swift development capability beyond just code reading
• Web frontend experience with React or similar frameworks
• Full-stack development background
• Experience shipping products in regulated or safety-critical industries
