About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential database technology organization seeking a Principal Database Performance Engineer to join their core engineering team. This is a high-impact role working on performance and scalability challenges at petabyte scale.

The position is based in Germany and offers flexible remote work arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritize performance and scalability opportunities in production workloads and benchmarks
  • Design and implement optimized database algorithms and data structures across query execution, indexing, and memory management
  • Lead the performance roadmap focusing on latency, throughput, memory efficiency, and hardware utilization
  • Contribute to the development of a complex, high-performance database system with thorough testing and safe production deployment
  • Represent technical work through external presentations, technical writing, and community engagement
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in database performance engineering or distributed systems
  • Master's or PhD in databases or a related field
  • Strong proficiency in C++ with a background in performance-critical software or systems programming
  • Demonstrated track record of driving complex performance improvements from conception through production
  • Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proactive, goal-driven approach
