Senior Financial Accountant – FTC 12 months

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in their search for a Senior Financial Accountant on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced environment where you'll take ownership of critical month-end close activities, operational expenditure accounting, and financial reporting processes.

Our client is seeking an experienced professional who can operate independently, resolve complex accounting matters, and drive meaningful improvements to finance operations and systems.

Responsibilities

• Own designated areas of monthly management accounts across P&L and balance sheet, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
• Take end-to-end responsibility for operational expenditure accounting and the accruals process
• Partner with FP&A to explain performance against budget, investigate variances, and provide meaningful commentary
• Manage IFRS 16 lease accounting, advertising revenue, and customer acquisition cost accounting
• Oversee finance relationship for a Polish subsidiary, reviewing monthly trial balances and supporting consolidation activities
• Prepare and review month-end journals including accruals, prepayments, and fixed assets
• Complete detailed balance sheet reconciliations, proactively investigating discrepancies
• Support year-end accounts preparation and external audit completion
• Provide guidance to AP and AR functions with relevant trend analysis
• Identify process improvements and control gaps, implementing practical solutions
• Contribute to NetSuite development and optimization, working with internal teams and consultants
• Support finance projects and cross-functional initiatives
• Coach and develop junior team members through knowledge-sharing

What We're Looking For

• Recognized professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Typically at least two years of relevant post-qualification experience
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with ability to apply it independently
• Practical experience with month-end close, management accounts, and balance sheet reporting in fast-paced environments
• Solid knowledge of accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and operational expenditure accounting
• Experience with IFRS 16 lease accounting and assessing accounting treatments for non-routine transactions
• Proven experience preparing journals, reconciliations, and financial commentary
• Background supporting statutory accounts and external audit requirements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to evaluate options and recommend solutions
• Advanced Excel skills and ability to interpret financial data and communicate insights
• Experience using NetSuite is desirable
• Experience partnering with FP&A and non-finance stakeholders
• Experience with international subsidiaries or external accounting providers is advantageous
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to simplify complex financial information
• Ability to work independently with sound judgment when information is incomplete
• Experience coaching and supporting junior colleagues

Location and Working Arrangement

This role is based in the UK with a hybrid working model: office-based Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote working Tuesday and Friday.
