About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing sports technology company that is building digital infrastructure for a passionate community. Our talent team is seeking a Software Engineer - Data to help scale their teamwear operations through robust data systems and automation.

This role offers the chance to work on meaningful data challenges in a startup environment where your contributions directly impact business growth. You'll be building pipelines, algorithms, and tools that transform unstructured real-world data into reliable business intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain automated data collection pipelines designed for rapid expansion across new sources and markets
  • Develop algorithms to extract relevant information from websites and images
  • Ensure data quality through validation frameworks, confidence scoring, monitoring, and clean handovers to internal teams and partners
  • Manage and evolve the data infrastructure for the teamwear vertical
  • Serve as a key technical point of contact within the teamwear area
  • Create internal tools enabling non-technical team members to collect and validate data independently
  • Produce analytics and reports for internal stakeholders and external partners

What We're Looking For

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 6-8 years of experience in software engineering with strong data engineering capabilities
  • Fluent English; German is a significant advantage
  • Broad technical skillset spanning data pipelines, backend development, and some frontend work
  • Hands-on experience with automated data pipelines, web scraping, and image processing
  • Strong expertise in databases and data modelling
  • Ability to work independently in cross-functional environments with business stakeholders
  • Quick learner who asks insightful questions when navigating unfamiliar domains
  • Understanding of when to prioritize speed versus precision based on business context
  • Strong attention to detail regarding data quality and making uncertainties explicit
  • Data-driven thinking that goes beyond analysis to identify patterns, implications, and next steps
  • Clean coding practices including testing and code reviews

Technical Stack: Python, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Grafana, Metabase, Pulumi, Kubernetes, AWS, LLM APIs

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, or Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi/Terraform)
  • Ability to present and prepare data for non-technical audiences
  • Personal connection to amateur sports

Important Context:

This role involves working largely as a team of two within engineering, with most daily collaboration happening with business teams rather than other engineers. You'll have significant autonomy to set priorities and build systems from the ground up. Much of the work focuses on data collection and quality assurance rather than greenfield machine learning projects. The team works AI-first with AI tools integrated into daily workflows.
