Junior Data Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential fintech organization in their search for a Junior Data Engineer based in London. This is a chance to join a profitable, fast-growing technology company at the center of their data infrastructure, working on problems that directly impact how the business uses data to make decisions.

As a Junior Data Engineer, you'll work alongside senior team members to tackle complex challenges while taking ownership of your own areas. You'll operate with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating closely with product, analytics, and engineering teams. The focus is on enabling fast, iterative analytics—moving from idea to insight quickly—while maintaining strong foundations around reliability, cost, and security.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure that support analytics and business intelligence across the organization
• Work with modern data stack technologies including Snowflake, dbt, Python, and AWS
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business challenges, break them down, and deliver pragmatic, scalable solutions
• Proactively gather context, align stakeholders, and ensure work lands effectively
• Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform and maintain CI/CD pipelines
• Balance speed with scalability and reliability when making technical decisions
• Leverage modern tools and AI to improve workflows and platform capabilities

What We're Looking For

• Solid programming ability in Python or similar languages
• Strong experience with Snowflake or similar data warehouses
• Good understanding of software engineering patterns and architectures
• Experience building data-intensive systems
• Cloud experience, preferably AWS
• Infrastructure as code experience, ideally with Terraform
• Understanding of CI/CD best practices
• Familiarity with modern data architectures (Lambda/Kappa)
• Self-starter who takes ownership and drives work forward
• Strong problem solver who focuses on understanding before building
• Good judgment on build vs buy decisions
• Comfortable working in ambiguity and shaping direction
• Clear communicator across technical and non-technical audiences
• Able to manage multiple streams of work without losing momentum

Tech stack includes: Python, SQL, Terragrunt, JavaScript, AWS, Snowflake, S3/Parquet, dbt, Fivetran, Kubernetes, Kafka, GitHub Actions, Datadog, and more.
