Senior Machine Learning Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential travel-tech organization seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their Pricing & Revenue team in Offenburg. In this role, you will drive data-driven improvements for forecasting, pricing logic, and product insights.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Model Development: Develop and optimize forecasting and pricing models as well as data-driven decision logics, maintaining methodical pragmatism with a strong focus on measurable impact
• Data Analysis: Work with time series, demand signals, and heterogeneous data sources, carefully defining features and labels to ensure data integrity
• Performance Evaluation: Design and maintain evaluation frameworks through backtesting, robust metrics, and segmentation; support holdout testing and A/B testing methodologies
• Engineering Standards: Establish best practices for backtesting, reproducibility, and versioning across the ML engineering workflow
• Data Visibility: Enhance dashboards and reporting systems that make model performance and business KPIs transparent to stakeholders
• Workflow Automation: Drive reproducible workflows with clear pipelines, versioning, and meaningful testing; automate recurring analyses and evaluation processes

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience in data science or applied ML engineering, ideally in a product or business context
• Extremely strong SQL skills with a deep understanding of data quality, debugging, and consistent metrics
• Clean Python coding skills with ability to create transparent, well-documented analyses
• Solid grasp of bias/leakage-awareness and experience thinking through guardrails and offline-vs-online scenarios
• Ownership mindset with pragmatic 80/20 work approach, reliability, and clear communication
• Entrepreneurial thinking with genuine desire to make measurable impact
• Fluent German and good English language skills

Nice-to-have qualifications that set the best candidates apart:

• Experience in revenue management or dynamic pricing domains (travel, eCommerce, mobility)
• Familiarity with demand patterns including seasonality, events, lead times, and segment analysis
• Hands-on experience with analytics engineering or warehouse tools such as dbt, Snowflake, or similar
• MLOps tooling and cloud infrastructure experience, particularly with AWS
