About This Opportunity
We are representing a global financial services technology provider seeking a Lead UX/UI Designer to join their London-based product team on a 12-month fixed-term contract starting November 2026. This is a hybrid role requiring regular presence in their London office.
You will own the design of complex, multi-stakeholder products end to end—from early problem solving through to prototypes and production-ready UI. Working closely with engineering and product teams, you'll be comfortable making confident design decisions, shipping in short cycles, and iterating based on real feedback. You will also be responsible for leading and mentoring junior designers in the team.
Responsibilities
- Own complex projects end to end, taking full design accountability for one or more product workstreams from early discovery through wireframes, prototypes and final UI specification
- Design and produce interactive prototypes in Sketch to test flows, validate concepts with users and align stakeholders before build
- Run and facilitate workshops across teams and features to drive strategic alignment
- Maintain and evolve the design system, extending the component library and design standards to ensure consistency, accessibility and reusability
- Support junior designers by setting direction, reviewing work, running critique sessions and guiding their professional development
- Partner closely with product managers to shape requirements and with developers to ensure designs are implemented faithfully and are technically feasible
- Deliver at pace by prioritising work, breaking large problems into shippable increments and maintaining momentum across parallel workstreams
- Uphold accessibility and quality standards, ensuring designs meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards before handover
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Proven track record as a lead UX/UI designer with a portfolio demonstrating ownership of complex, large-scale digital products
- Advanced working knowledge of Sketch, including symbols, libraries and shared styles
- Strong prototyping ability—you can move from rough concept to testable interactive prototype quickly
- Demonstrable experience mentoring or line-managing junior designers
- Confident collaborating with product managers, engineers, business stakeholders and clients
- Evidence of delivering high-quality work at pace in an agile environment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain and defend design decisions to non-designers
- Right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available for this fixed-term role)
Desirable:
- Previous experience designing for fintech, banking or other regulated financial services environments
- Exposure to enterprise or B2B products with dense interfaces and complex workflows
- Experience running user research and usability testing directly
