Senior Java Developer – eTrading

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a leading financial services organization in their search for a Senior Java Developer specializing in electronic trading systems. This is a 12-month contract engagement based in London with a hybrid working arrangement (minimum 3 days in-office).

You'll join a global technology team responsible for building and maintaining low-latency components within electronic trading and risk platforms that serve FX and electronic execution businesses worldwide. These are mission-critical, high-performance distributed systems that manage liquidity, generate real-time pricing, handle order execution, and support algorithmic trading strategies at scale.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into robust technical designs
• Develop high-quality, low-latency server-side Java components using industry-standard architectural patterns
• Build and enhance pricing engines, distribution systems, and algorithmic trading components
• Implement continuous integration practices with comprehensive automated testing (unit and integration)
• Conduct thorough testing prior to UAT releases and support deployment across development and test environments
• Work effectively within global delivery teams, coordinating with both internal and external technical resources
• Participate in intraday and overnight support rotations as needed
• Contribute to next-generation initiatives focused on reducing latency, improving pricing quality, and expanding platform capabilities

What We're Looking For

• Strong server-side Java expertise with demonstrable multithreaded development experience
• Proven track record building highly available, distributed systems
• Hands-on experience tuning and developing low-latency applications
• Direct experience with electronic trading systems, pricing engines, or algorithmic execution components (FX or similar asset classes)
• Solid understanding of testing methodologies including TDD/BDD
• Familiarity with enterprise messaging technologies (multicast, low-latency messaging platforms)
• Experience with FIX or comparable trading protocols (advantageous)
• Knowledge of time-series databases such as kdb+ (desirable)
• Experience with lock-free algorithms, advanced concurrency patterns, and performance optimization (preferred)
• Valid UK work authorization is mandatory for this role
