Tech Lead

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential edtech organization in the UK that is scaling rapidly following significant Series A investment. Our client is building a platform that connects educators with learners globally, and they need an experienced Tech Lead to help shape their technical direction and team growth.

This is a remote role requiring UK timezone overlap, offering the opportunity to lead both technical architecture and people development in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a globally distributed engineering team, establishing technical standards and fostering a collaborative culture
• Set the bar for technical excellence across architecture, CI/CD pipelines, testing practices, and code quality
• Drive a DevOps mindset where engineers own their systems from design through deployment and maintenance
• Architect and deliver scalable, maintainable systems that create measurable impact for end users
• Collaborate with AI specialists to integrate adaptive, personalized features into the platform
• Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to shape roadmap priorities and align on outcomes
• Continuously improve engineering delivery speed, reliability, team workflows, and technical decision-making processes
• Conduct 1:1s with team members, support career progression, and maintain strong feedback loops
• Balance hands-on coding, pair programming, and peer reviews with strategic technical leadership

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience in product-led, fast-paced environments
• Proven track record leading engineering teams or managing large-scale technical projects
• Strong software architecture skills including API-first design, modular systems, async communications, and scaling patterns
• AI-first approach to work: regular use of LLMs and agentic tools as part of your daily engineering workflow
• Full-stack capabilities with deep backend expertise and comfort with modern frontend frameworks (React.js preferred)
• Fluency in Agile and Lean methodologies, with focus on shipping value incrementally rather than ceremony
• Experience with Docker-based, cloud-native environments (AWS experience highly valued)
• History of shipping performant, elegant, user-facing products that are thoughtfully engineered
• Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset across disciplines and time zones
• UK timezone overlap required for this remote position
