About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential digital transformation consultancy based in Stuttgart that is building its next-generation product division. Our talent team is seeking a Lead Product Engineer who wants to take technical ownership of bringing product ideas to market—not just execute tickets, but shape how products are built from the ground up.
In this role, you'll be a core part of a new product-focused service line working with emerging technologies. You'll bring technical perspective into strategic decisions from day one, set engineering standards, make architectural choices, and build hands-on. As the product portfolio scales successfully, your scope of responsibility grows with it.
This position requires travel flexibility based on client projects. Depending on the engagement, you may work several days per week on-site with clients. Remote work is possible when project requirements allow, though regular presence in the Stuttgart area for internal events and team collaboration is expected.
Responsibilities
- Assess technical feasibility of opportunities early, evaluating architecture, risks, effort, and implementation viability
- Translate product specifications into sustainable technical solutions and make critical architecture decisions
- Build production software hands-on across the full stack—frontend, backend, data storage, APIs, and operations
- Ensure production readiness by considering stability, scalability, security, DevOps, observability, maintainability, and operations from the start
- Transform prototypes into products by contextualizing rapid validations and developing robust, long-term viable systems
- Develop AI-native software systems, understanding where AI adds value, where classical logic is required, and how both combine into stable products
- Advance AI-assisted software development by practically deploying modern coding agents and new engineering approaches while critically evaluating their integration
- Shape engineering standards including architecture principles, tooling, development processes, and quality benchmarks
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record with production-deployed software
- Experience taking ownership of software with understanding of real operational requirements
- Background in a product environment or comparable situation with genuine accountability for quality, value, and software operations
- Ability to independently structure open and incompletely defined problems, develop solution paths, and determine the right next steps
- Ownership mentality—you take responsibility for outcomes rather than hiding behind large teams or narrowly scoped tickets
- Strong full-stack understanding with capability to independently develop complete applications
- Solid command of modern software development fundamentals including databases, APIs, architecture, testing, cloud platforms, deployment, security, and operations
- Practical experience with LLMs, AI agents, and AI-based applications with understanding of how these integrate with classical software logic
- Productive use of coding agents and AI-assisted development tools with realistic assessment of their capabilities and limitations
- Balance of high quality standards with pragmatism—avoiding both over-engineering and short-term solutions whose consequences others must bear later
- Hands-on working style that validates technical decisions in code and real systems
- English: fluent, business-level proficiency required
- German: advantageous but not mandatory
- No specific degree required—technical judgment, practical experience, and ability to develop production software holistically are what matter
