About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential cloud communications client in their search for a Senior Data Engineer to join their Analytics & Data Platform team in London. This is an opportunity to work on real-time analytics infrastructure serving tens of thousands of users globally, building systems that unlock data value through streaming platforms and low-latency solutions.
As part of our client's platform engineering team, you will design and deliver near real-time data solutions, optimize big data architectures, and solve complex data challenges at scale. Your work will directly enable customers to make informed decisions through real-time insights and analytical reports.
Responsibilities
- Lead requirements analysis, solution design, and end-to-end delivery of streaming platform modules providing near real-time data capabilities
- Translate business requirements into optimized data models designed for big data workloads
- Identify and resolve query performance bottlenecks across the analytics stack
- Write clean, scalable code in Scala, Python, and SQL with comprehensive testing and deployment
- Architect optimal solutions for real-time data challenges using structured and unstructured sources
- Contribute to product and platform performance optimization with live site monitoring
- Mentor team members through actionable feedback and knowledge sharing
- Deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions in a continuous deployment environment
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or related technical field
- 5+ years of experience with modern programming languages such as Scala, Python, Go, or TypeScript
- 3+ years of hands-on experience building near real-time analytics systems
- Proven experience designing complex data processing pipelines
- Strong data modeling skills including star schema and dimensional modeling in cloud data warehouses
- Demonstrated query optimization expertise
- Experience shipping and maintaining production code
- Knowledge of Kafka or similar streaming platforms is a plus
- Collaborative mindset with enthusiasm for sharing ideas and learning from others
Technical environment: AWS services including Kinesis, Kafka, S3, Glue, EMR, EKS, Redshift; Apache Pinot; Apache Flink; Airflow; GitLab-based continuous deployment.
