About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential autonomous robotics organization based in Munich. We are seeking a Senior Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join their Board Support team and work on a custom embedded Linux distribution that powers autonomous systems across surveillance, inspection, mapping, and logistics applications.
This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge embedded platforms, collaborating with experienced engineers on mission-critical software that runs on embedded hardware in demanding environments.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Board Support and cross-functional development teams to build and maintain embedded Linux software components
- Add features, resolve bugs, write tests, and optimize performance of software running on custom embedded Linux distributions
- Work with engineering and product teams to understand internal and customer requirements
- Propose and implement new software solutions, taking ownership from design through deployment
- Provide expert-level technical support to customers experiencing complex issues
- Write clear internal documentation and contribute to public-facing knowledge bases
- Participate in agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and task prioritization
- Work hands-on with C/C++, Python, and Bash codebases on embedded hardware platforms
What We're Looking For
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years professional experience writing object-oriented C++ and/or Python code
- Extensive embedded systems experience including cross-compilation, debugging, and performance optimization
- Expert Linux skills with strong command line proficiency, resource management, systems services, and networking knowledge
- Deep understanding of Linux kernel, embedded device drivers, device tree configuration, and u-boot
- Experience with Debian/Ubuntu-based systems, systemd, Debian packaging, and complex Docker environments
- Knowledge of OTA update mechanisms (e.g., mender)
- Proficient across all OSI model layers including hardware interfaces, IP addressing, routing protocols, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS
- Skilled with network diagnostic tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump
- Understanding of embedded security including secure boot, UEFI, and boot chain verification
- Experience with network security protocols (SSL/TLS, VPNs) and embedded device security best practices
- Basic electrical engineering familiarity with schematics and debugging I2C, SPI, UART, CAN bus communication
- Experience working in agile environments with sprint boards and daily updates
- Product-oriented mindset with initiative to drive projects forward
Bonus qualifications:
- Video streaming and MIPI CSI driver experience
- NVIDIA Jetson platform and BSP package experience
- NXP iMX8 platform and BSP package experience
- Open source contributions, particularly in the Linux ecosystem
- CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI
