Forward Deployed Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology client in Munich who needs a Forward Deployed Engineering Manager to lead a specialized team of engineers working at the intersection of hardware and software in field-deployed environments.

In this role, you will oversee the entire lifecycle of customer engagements—from initial discovery and site surveys through to final integration in the field. Your team will bridge the gap between core products and real-world deployment scenarios where physical hardware integration presents unique challenges.

• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and scale a team of Solutions Engineers, providing technical guidance on complex integrations while fostering a culture of proactive problem-solving
• Accountability: Work directly with senior stakeholders across the organization, maintaining high standards for your team and building close working relationships with technical leadership
• Field Deployment Oversight: Manage technical strategy for deploying applications in non-standard environments, addressing hardware site readiness, connectivity challenges, and environmental constraints
• Architectural Strategy: Act as lead architect for high-stakes customer integrations, ensuring robust and scalable hardware-to-software interfaces including APIs, firmware, and edge computing layers
• Stakeholder Management: Serve as primary technical liaison for enterprise customers, translating business requirements into technical deployment plans that account for hardware latency, power constraints, and data throughput
• Feedback Loop Optimization: Collaborate with Product and R&D teams to communicate field-testing results and hardware compatibility issues, driving product evolution based on real-world edge cases

What We're Looking For

• Hardware/Software Fluency: 3+ years in technical roles with at least 3 years specifically focused on hardware/software integration in areas such as IoT, robotics, industrial automation, or edge computing
• Leadership Experience: 1+ year managing customer-facing technical teams such as Solutions Architects, Field Engineers, or Sales Engineers
• Field Deployment Expertise: Hands-on experience with field-deployed applications where remote troubleshooting is critical; understanding of networking protocols is a major plus
• Full-Stack Understanding: While hardware-focused, you must understand modern software stacks including cloud services, APIs, and database management to ensure proper data flow from field to dashboard
• Crisis Management: Proven ability to troubleshoot critical failures in the field under high pressure and with limited physical access to hardware
• Work Authorization: Must hold EU citizenship and be eligible to work in the European Union without restriction
