About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential legal technology organization that is transforming how legal professionals work with AI. Our client operates at the cutting edge of applied legal AI, serving top-tier law firms and corporate legal departments across 50+ countries. This is a rare opportunity to join a team that is inventing best practices in real time, working with capabilities before they reach the broader market.
As a Legal Engineer focused on Applied AI Knowledge, you'll sit at the intersection of legal expertise and technical innovation. You'll work hand-in-hand with Product teams, vetting new AI capabilities against real legal work, establishing quality standards, and authoring the reference use cases that define excellence across the function. In a single year, you'll evaluate more legal AI applications than most practitioners see in an entire career.
Responsibilities
- Vet skills libraries and legal engineering outputs before release, ensuring they meet rigorous quality standards through hands-on review and testing
- Research and experiment with prompting techniques, skill patterns, and emerging AI methods, converting successful approaches into function-wide best practices
- Author exemplar use cases that serve as the reference standard for quality across the organization
- Collaborate closely with Product on upcoming capabilities: conduct early testing, develop initial best practices for new features, and provide structured feedback from real-world application
- Create technical onboarding materials and training for new Legal Engineers in your region, including documentation of best practices for use case creation
- Communicate new standards, exemplars, and platform updates to the global Legal Engineering team
- Support flagship demonstrations at major industry events, including use case preparation and rehearsal coordination
- Oversee quality control and currency of use case and skills libraries, coordinating across regions
- Maintain active engagement with client work (approximately 30% of time), specifically selected to inform standards development and library enhancement
What We're Looking For
Essential qualifications:
- Qualified lawyer with substantial practice experience at a leading firm or in-house legal team, with enough depth to evaluate outputs across multiple practice areas
- Genuine technical proficiency: comfortable with code or scripting (bootcamp or self-taught backgrounds valued), with fluency in how AI tools actually function
- Heavy, habitual user of AI tools (ideally legal AI), with sharp discernment in prompt quality and use case design—able to rank prompts, articulate precisely why one outperforms another, and improve them
- Demonstrable pride in the craft of prompting and use case design, with aspiration to set the reference standard
- Rigorous review methodology: line-by-line verification against source materials and the judgment to know when AI should not be used
- Comfort managing high-volume workstreams: strong triage skills, ability to advance multiple threads simultaneously, and process-building capability where volume demands it
Strongly preferred:
- Experience building skills, workflows, or automations within a legal AI platform
- M&A or broader transactional background, or deal coordination experience
This role requires someone who holds both halves of the critical judgment: understanding what makes a prompt technically effective and what makes legal output substantively correct rather than merely fluent.
