We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking an Engineering Manager to join their growing technology team. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-performing engineering squads within cross-functional, mission-driven teams in Cardiff or remotely across the UK.

Responsibilities

• Take accountability for delivery across your squad(s), working closely with Technical Leads and Product Managers to achieve team outcomes
• Actively foster a high bar for engineering excellence within your teams, holding accountability for both technical outcomes and individual engineer performance and growth
• Lead and develop a group of approximately 7-10 engineers through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback, and career coaching
• Partner with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that elevate engineering practices across the organization
• Lead stakeholder communication with other teams, creating focused space for engineers to perform their best work
• Collaborate with the wider engineering organization to contribute to company-wide managerial and technical best practices
• Guide squads in navigating ambiguous problem areas with a high degree of autonomy
• Champion an outcomes-focused approach, optimizing for highest impact and leverage rather than rigid processes

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Strong technical and delivery background with previous experience as a software engineer in prior roles (note: this is not a hands-on coding position, but technical credibility is essential)
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex technical outcomes
• Comfort operating in ambiguous problem areas with high autonomy
• Ability to input, understand, and challenge engineering decisions while empowering teams to make decisions themselves
• Understanding of what constitutes a high-performing engineering team and ability to chart a course to achieve it
• Demonstrated ability to coach people to achieve their goals
• Natural ability to inspire and motivate teams
• Focus on outcomes over processes

Desirable experience:

• Working in an experimentation-led environment
• Managing teams within platform, core application, or expansion contexts
• Experience in fast-paced, product-focused technology organizations

This position is available in Cardiff or remotely across the UK. Our client offers genuine flexible working with no mandate on office attendance.
