Senior Software Engineer – Clickpipes (CDC/Streaming)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential database technology company seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their streaming data integrations platform. This role is remote within Germany and focuses on building real-time data replication systems that handle petabyte-scale workloads.

You'll work on complex distributed systems challenges including database internals optimization, schema evolution during live replication, cross-system data type compatibility, and ensuring data consistency over unreliable networks. The team contributes to open-source CDC platforms and works transparently with the developer community.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-throughput integrations with databases (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB), data lakes (Iceberg, Delta Lake), and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake)
• Handle edge cases in production environments: unconventional database configurations, data type internals, database upgrades and failovers, large transactions
• Debug complex production issues using runtime diagnostics (pprof, parca) and observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing)
• Build infrastructure and tooling to improve system reliability, reduce incident response time, and automate operations
• Write clear technical documentation for both public and internal audiences
• Participate in on-call rotation to ensure system availability
• Work directly with customers to understand integration requirements and identify product gaps
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and lead technical discussions that influence product roadmaps

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of industry experience building data-intensive software solutions
• Proficiency in Go, or strong systems programming background with willingness to learn Go quickly
• Cloud-native experience deploying and operating services on at least one major platform (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Practical experience with Kubernetes
• Strong problem-solving abilities and solid production debugging skills
• Clear written communication (design documents, code reviews) and verbal communication (technical discussions, customer calls, incident response)

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with database replication technologies (CDC, logical replication)
• Experience with durable execution frameworks (Temporal)
• Familiarity with data formats and protocols (Avro, Parquet, Protobuf)
• Experience with data processing frameworks (Kafka, Spark, Flink)
• Open-source software contribution or maintenance experience
