Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential energy-sector client in Berlin. This finance leadership role sits at the intersection of wholesale energy markets and consumer operations. You will establish and run the finance function from the ground up.

• Plan and manage liquidity across multiple revenue streams: wholesale electricity trading, household payment flows, and daily company operations
• Design and enforce internal financial controls, approval workflows, and policies governing how capital moves through the organization
• Own the full accounting cycle: monthly close, payroll, statutory reporting, and delivery of accurate financials to leadership and investors
• Determine the optimal build-versus-buy approach for finance processes; collaborate with engineering to automate high-volume transaction reconciliation
• Forecast capital requirements, challenge proposed expenditures, and ensure every deployment of funds is justified by clear business value
• As the business scales, assess opportunities to integrate financial products that strengthen the core energy offering

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated experience building or running a finance function, ideally in a fast-scaling or early-stage environment
• Deep analytical rigor: you trace discrepancies to their root cause and refuse to accept reconciliations that are "close enough"
• Proactive financial planning mindset—you model the cash impact of new products or partnerships before they launch
• Strong inclination toward automation and AI-assisted workflows to improve accuracy and scalability
• Fluent German and English (accounting, payroll, and tax compliance are conducted in German)
• Ownership mentality: you treat client capital with the care you would apply to your own resources

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are set by the client. Equity participation is expected as part of the total package for this early-stage leadership role.
