Senior Medical Writer (UK Based/US Position)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential healthcare communications organization seeking a Senior Medical Writer to drive day-to-day project delivery and create outstanding medical content across diverse therapy areas. This UK-based position supports US business operations and requires flexibility to work across US time zones.

In this role, you will:

• Lead content delivery for complex projects, delegating to junior writers as appropriate to ensure timely, high-quality execution
• Proactively utilize and implement AI-driven solutions to streamline projects, enhance efficiency, and provide guidance to team members on best practices
• Develop compelling narratives from complex scientific information across multiple channels and formats
• Lead scientific discussions with clients and external experts to capture briefs, resolve queries, and progress content development
• Step confidently into new therapeutic areas, driving discussions on treatment decision-making and patient pathways
• Review junior writers' work for adherence to brief and quality standards, providing constructive feedback
• Take responsibility for overall quality of deliverables with supervision from senior team members
• Support scientific content development for new business opportunities in emerging therapeutic areas
• Interrogate project briefs proactively, flagging queries or potential issues and applying critical thinking to resolve them efficiently
• Lead elements of on-site programmes across various events with support from colleagues
• Train and mentor junior writers on therapy area knowledge and account-specific processes

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings:

• A strong scientific background with a degree in a scientific or medical discipline (postgraduate degree preferred) and a high level of academic achievement
• Previous experience in medical writing at a Medical Writer level or above
• A passion for and profound understanding of healthcare, science, medicine, and the pharmaceutical industry
• A keen interest in AI technologies and their application to medical writing
• Proven experience mentoring junior medical writers and interacting regularly with clients
• Personable, articulate communication skills and the ability to nurture professional relationships
• The ability to structure and write novel projects that may not have been executed previously
• Flexibility to work across US and UK time zones as business needs require

This is a UK contract position with 40 contractual working hours per week. You will work closely with US-based colleagues and may have day-to-day line management from leaders supporting US business operations.
