Senior Software Engineer (Managed PostgreSQL)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential cloud infrastructure organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and scale their managed database service for AI workloads. This service is already in production, and you will help make it the go-to solution for teams running AI applications on relational databases.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Develop the control plane and lifecycle automation for managed database services — provisioning, high availability, failover, backups, point-in-time recovery, version upgrades, and zero-downtime maintenance
• Tune and harden PostgreSQL internals including replication, write-ahead logging, vacuum processes, query planning, connection pooling, and extensions — translating technical optimization into product features and sensible defaults
• Build migration tooling that enables customers to move from major cloud providers and self-managed clusters with minimal downtime
• Drive the AI-database integration story end to end, including vector search capabilities, hybrid retrieval, and integration with the wider cloud stack
• Run the service with an SRE mindset — define service-level objectives, build observability infrastructure, lead incident response, and incorporate postmortem findings into platform improvements
• Work directly with customers on architecture reviews, performance escalations, and production problems that require deep technical expertise

What We're Looking For

Must-have qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time spent building or operating production PostgreSQL at scale (terabyte-plus datasets, replication topologies, and real failure modes debugged in production environments)
• Strong software engineering skills in Go or another backend/systems language, with willingness to work primarily in Go
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals: MVCC, WAL, replication (physical and logical), vacuum, query planning, extensions, and partitioning
• Hands-on experience with the surrounding ecosystem including high-availability managers, backup tools, connection poolers, and logical replication tooling
• The instincts of an experienced database administrator — you can read query execution plans fluently, reason about lock behavior, and know how to handle database corruptions
• Ability to write reliable code and dig into complex problems
• Teamwork-oriented approach

Nice-to-have qualifications:

• Experience with vector database extensions and vector search at scale, including index selection and recall versus latency trade-offs
• Background building managed-database control planes at cloud providers
• Experience writing Kubernetes operators in Go
• Contributions to PostgreSQL itself, popular extensions, or the surrounding open-source ecosystem
• AI/ML workload experience including RAG pipelines, embedding stores, and GPU-resident workloads

Location: Remote from EU timezones, or hybrid/office-based in Amsterdam or London
