Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Platform Team

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI technology client seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Platform Team in Canada or the USA. This organization builds enterprise-grade conversational AI systems and needs experienced backend engineers to strengthen their core platform infrastructure.

You'll work on critical backend services that power real-time customer interactions at scale, focusing on agent assist integrations across multiple channels (chat, email) and authentication systems that meet enterprise security requirements. This role sits at the intersection of distributed systems, real-time communication, and enterprise integrations.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build systems that manage real-time conversation state, context propagation, and session lifecycle
• Enable agent assist integration for chat and email channels, collaborating with frontend platform, ML, infrastructure, and backend services teams
• Expand backend agent assist services to meet customer requirements and feature requests
• Build specialized authentication systems for users, service accounts, virtual agents, server workloads, and cloud-based external integrations
• Design robust integrations with major CCaaS platforms and customer systems
• Address customer issues that block integrations, affect user experience, or impact system performance
• Ensure high availability, low latency, and strong observability for real-time conversation systems
• Implement authentication, authorization, compliance, and enterprise security best practices
• Drive improvements in reliability, performance, and scalability in production environments handling high interaction volumes
• Demonstrate engineering best practices in deliverables and daily work

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 5+ years of experience building scalable backend systems in production environments
• Strong experience designing and maintaining robust APIs (REST, gRPC)
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and real-time communication architectures
• Experience integrating with third-party enterprise platforms and APIs
• Experience with containerized environments (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Strong understanding of system reliability, observability, and security in enterprise environments
• Strong plus: Experience working with CCaaS platforms or contact center systems
• Plus: Familiarity with AI Agents, Virtual Agents, or LLM-based systems
• Plus: Experience building authentication systems
