Senior Security Engineer, Platform Engineering

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential AI infrastructure client seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join their Platform Engineering team in Sydney. In this role, you will design and implement platform security across cloud and on-premises environments, working closely with engineering and operations teams to build a security-first culture.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading platform security initiatives by assessing risks, hardening systems, and ensuring secure access controls across distributed infrastructure
• Owning security standards for managed Kubernetes services supporting high-performance GPU compute workloads
• Applying Kubernetes security best practices including RBAC, admission controllers, pod security standards, auditing, and network policies
• Implementing supply chain security measures such as image signing, vulnerability scanning, and policy enforcement
• Securing infrastructure-as-code pipelines with automated security scanning and validation
• Automating patch management processes with robust testing frameworks before production deployment
• Experimenting with AI/ML-powered security tools to proactively identify drift, anomalies, and security posture changes
• Collaborating across teams to enhance compliance automation, secrets management, identity and privileged access management, encryption solutions including SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management, security monitoring, incident response, and security awareness programs

What We're Looking For

Our client requires a candidate with:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
• 7+ years of experience as a Platform Security Engineer, DevSecOps Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer with security focus
• Strong proficiency with security frameworks including CIS Benchmarks, NIST, ISO 27001, and SOC 2
• Deep knowledge of OWASP Top 10 for applications and cloud-native infrastructure
• Expertise in Kubernetes security and networking with tools such as Calico, kube-bench, or Falco
• Experience with Kubernetes supply chain security tools like Cosign, Trivy, or Kyverno
• Proficiency with IaC security scanning tools such as Checkov or Snyk
• Hands-on experience with secrets management platforms like HashiCorp Vault or Azure Key Vault
• Knowledge of Identity Access Management and Privileged Access Management solutions such as Auth0, Microsoft Entra, HashiCorp Boundary, or Teleport
• Experience managing SSL/TLS certificate lifecycles including automated issuance, renewal, deployment, and monitoring
• Strong scripting and programming skills in Bash, Python, or Go
• Deep systems knowledge of Linux internals, networking stacks, and distributed storage
• Clear and effective English communication skills, both written and spoken
• Security certifications such as CISSP, CKS, OSCP, or cloud security certifications (GCP/AWS/Azure)

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience in high-growth startups or regulated industries with SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, or HIPAA compliance requirements
• Experience applying security principles to AI/ML operations environments
