About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential engineering and infrastructure consulting organization seeking a Protection and Controls Engineer to support their growing energy practice. This role can be fully remote within the United States or hybrid from various office locations.
Our client delivers electrical engineering services across transmission systems, power distribution, renewable energy installations, and next-generation energy solutions. They need an experienced protection and controls specialist to strengthen their technical capabilities and client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering design work on assigned power system projects
- Perform power system studies and protection settings coordination
- Generate basis of design documentation for protection settings and relay configurations
- Develop design schedules and budgets in collaboration with project leadership
- Support construction, start-up, and commissioning phases
- Review engineering work performed by team members and provide quality control
- Prepare technical specification sections and construction cost estimates
- Serve as lead engineer on projects of varying complexity
- Provide specialized technical input and serve as technical advisor for the team
- Attend client meetings and occasional site visits for data gathering and field walks
- Mentor early career engineers and facilitate internal training sessions
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 6+ years of relevant protection and controls experience in electrical engineering
- Understanding of electrical engineering design principles and technology
- Ability to work effectively within team environments and communicate with stakeholders
- Strong initiative, motivation, and attention to detail
Preferred:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- 8+ years of experience with 2+ years as a project lead
- Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements
- Experience with IEC61850 protocols
- Track record working with remote teams
- Full EPC or Design/Build project experience from start to finish
- Plant startup and commissioning field experience
- Power systems analysis software (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP)
- Relay coordination utilizing ASPEN OneLiner
- Experience developing native relay setting files
- Distribution automation background
- Experience with collaborative 3D model environments
