About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential sustainability-focused organization in the metals sector, seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join their Cologne-based team. Our client is building innovative solutions at the intersection of industrial operations, trading, and advanced technology. This is a hands-on analytical role where you'll transform complex operational and business data into clear insights that drive measurable improvements across the organization.
You'll work at the intersection of business, operations, and technology—partnering directly with stakeholders to understand their data needs, conducting detailed analysis, and building the foundation for stable, automated reporting systems. This role offers significant ownership and the opportunity to shape data practices during a period of organizational growth.
Responsibilities
- Turn complex business questions into clear, actionable analysis by identifying trends, opportunities, risks, and key performance drivers
- Build and maintain data transformations to convert raw data into clean, reliable, analysis-ready datasets in the Data Warehouse
- Translate business requirements into well-structured, reusable data models and clearly defined metrics that serve as a trusted source of truth
- Implement and maintain data quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, completeness, and freshness—proactively identifying and resolving issues
- Build and support dashboards, reports, and analytical datasets optimized for internal reporting and self-service analytics
- Work closely with Product, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Engineering, and other teams to understand needs and translate them into meaningful analytical solutions
- Maintain clear documentation for datasets, transformations, metrics, and data lineage using modern documentation tools
- Identify and improve manual or inefficient analytical workflows through automation, modern data tooling, and AI-assisted analysis
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in Data Analytics, Product Analytics, Business Analytics, or a closely related analytical role
- Proven track record of turning complex business questions and raw data into reliable analysis, actionable insights, and business decisions
- Strong analytical and statistical thinking with the ability to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes while working confidently with imperfect or incomplete data
- Independent, structured, and pragmatic approach with strong ownership mindset
- Ability to communicate clearly across different levels and functions, bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions
- Strong business understanding and analytical curiosity—experience with financials, commodity trading, finance analytics, or accounting is a strong advantage
- Strong SQL skills including experience with complex datasets, data transformations, joins, aggregations, window functions, and analytical data models
- Proven experience working with modern Data Warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, or similar platforms
- Experience with modern analytics engineering practices and tools such as dbt, including data modelling, automated data quality tests, documentation, and data lineage
- Strong experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Metabase, Looker, Tableau, Power BI) with a focus on building clear, performant dashboards
- Fluency in English; German language skills are beneficial for this Cologne-based position
