Senior Forecasting and Optimization Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential clean energy technology organization in their search for a Senior Forecasting and Optimization Engineer. Our client is at the forefront of enabling distributed energy systems to deliver reliable grid services through advanced forecasting, control systems, and optimization algorithms. The code you write will directly contribute to a carbon-free energy future.

As a Senior Forecasting and Optimization Engineer, you'll join a team solving critical challenges in distributed energy management. You'll develop production-grade forecasting models and optimization algorithms that operate at scale, working with one of the largest distributed energy datasets in the electricity industry.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve accurate, robust energy forecasting models for mission-critical applications
• Design and implement control and optimization algorithms for distributed energy systems
• Write, test, and deploy production-grade code for forecasting and optimization products
• Build monitoring tools and processes to assess the quality of operational models
• Transform large-scale distributed energy data into actionable insights for electric utilities and industry stakeholders
• Provide technical guidance to other engineers on machine learning, forecasting, and optimization methods
• Present analytical results clearly to both internal teams and external stakeholders
• Collaborate across data engineering, client success, product, and market development functions

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Passion for enabling a carbon-free, distributed energy future
• At least 5 years of experience in machine learning, statistical analysis, data visualization, control systems engineering, and/or mathematical optimization
• Experience developing data pipelines using large-scale relational databases
• Strong mathematical skills with ability to apply new techniques to real-world problems
• At least 3 years hands-on experience with Python and the scientific/ML stack (Pandas, Numpy, SciPy, Sklearn, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Ability to extract valuable insights from large, complex datasets
• Excellent communication skills for explaining technical results to diverse audiences

Preferred:

• Experience completing long-term research projects (MS or PhD thesis)
• Commercial experience building large-scale timeseries forecasting models
• Experience developing control and optimization solutions for large-scale problems
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks)
• Strong background in mathematics and statistics
• Experience using Large Language Models to accelerate development
