Engineering Manager – Java

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager - Java to join their growing team in Bordeaux, France. Our client is an established technology company building innovative solutions that empower businesses through platform technology and AI-powered tools.

This role offers the opportunity to lead a talented engineering team while remaining hands-on with modern Java development. You'll be instrumental in building and scaling a product that serves thousands of users globally, working at the intersection of technical leadership and people management.

Location: Bordeaux, France (office-based with one remote day per week)

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 4-5 developers, conducting regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and fostering team cohesion across distributed locations
• Drive technical excellence by taking ownership of user stories, conducting code reviews, and actively contributing to design, development, testing, and production deployments
• Coordinate cross-functional delivery by developing roadmaps with R&D teams, aligning priorities with other technical leads, and partnering with product and design teams
• Remove technical blockers and make arbitration decisions to ensure the team delivers on commitments with high velocity and quality
• Establish and maintain best practices in clean code, testing methodologies, and pair programming
• Ensure successful onboarding of new team members and identify opportunities for talent development
• Contribute to recruitment efforts and participate in the adoption of AI within products and internal practices

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of Java development experience with recent versions of the language
• At least 2 years in a team lead or similar management role, with proven experience mentoring developers
• Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with people management responsibilities
• Track record of successfully delivering complex projects in a microservices environment
• Professional proficiency in English
