Engineering Manager – Java

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager - Java based in Paris, France. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a distributed engineering team building innovative solutions that leverage AI to simplify complex workflows for end users.

In this role, you'll balance hands-on technical contribution with people leadership, managing 4-5 developers while driving technical excellence across a microservices architecture. You'll work closely with product, design, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-velocity solutions in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of user stories, conduct code reviews, and actively contribute to design, development, testing, and production deployments
• Coordinate cross-functional delivery by developing roadmaps with R&D teams and aligning priorities with other technical leads
• Partner with product and design teams to deliver commitments with high quality and velocity
• Manage and mentor a team of 4-5 developers, conducting one-on-ones, performance reviews, and fostering team cohesion across distributed locations
• Ensure successful onboarding of new team members and identify opportunities to nurture talent
• Establish and promote best practices in clean code, testing, and pair programming
• Remove technical blockers, make arbitration decisions, and step in to resolve complex challenges
• Contribute to recruitment efforts and help build a high-performing engineering culture
• Participate in the adoption of AI within products and internal engineering practices

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• At least 5 years of Java development experience with recent versions of the language
• Minimum 2 years in a team lead or similar management role, with proven experience mentoring developers
• Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with people management responsibilities
• Track record of delivering complex projects in a microservices environment
• Professional proficiency in English
