American Tech Fellowship for Veterans

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential defense technology organization for a unique fellowship program designed exclusively for U.S. military veterans. This 12-week virtual training program will equip participants with advanced skills in artificial intelligence platform deployment and enterprise software solutions.

The fellowship runs virtually with live sessions on two weeknights per week, plus optional weekly sessions and office hours. Participants should expect to dedicate 5-10 hours per week to instruction and project work. This is an unpaid training program, though exceptional performers will have opportunities to interview for full-time positions with the client organization and partner companies.

Location: United States (Remote)

Program Duration: 12 weeks (Fall 2026 cohort)

Eligibility: U.S. military veterans only (any branch, MOS, or length of service). Transitioning service members within six months of separation are ideal candidates. Honorable Discharge required for separated veterans. Reserve and National Guard members welcome.

Responsibilities

• Participate in comprehensive virtual training sessions on enterprise AI platforms and data operations software
• Complete hands-on project work applying cutting-edge technology to real-world industrial and operational challenges
• Attend live virtual instruction sessions twice weekly, plus optional sessions and office hours
• Engage directly with engineers and leadership from the client organization
• Learn to deploy advanced software solutions in enterprise settings
• Work toward professional certification in platform use
• Prototype, test, and iterate on technical solutions independently

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 2+ years of hands-on work experience
• Proficiency with one or more programming languages: Python, Java, C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar
• Technical background in fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Data Science (formal degree not required)
• U.S. military veteran status with Honorable Discharge (if separated)

Technical Skills (one or more areas):

• General-purpose programming: Python, C/C++, C# /.NET, Rust, Go, Java, TypeScript/JavaScript
• Data and scientific computing: SQL, MATLAB, Simulink, R, Julia, Excel + VBA
• Embedded systems and controls: Arduino/MicroPython, ROS, LabVIEW, Ladder Logic, Structured Text, G-code, PLC or SCADA configuration
• Hardware description languages: Verilog, VHDL, SystemVerilog, FPGAs
• Comfortable with Linux shell, Git, and container tooling (Docker, WSL)

Valued Experience:

• Formal study in Computer Science, Engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems), Physics, Applied Math, Data Science, Mechatronics, or Robotics
• 4+ years solving problems on factory floors, in field service, avionics, military operations, or hands-on technical environments
• Experience automating, instrumenting, or optimizing physical processes
• Startup, maker-space, or hackathon projects blending hardware and software
• Work with CNC systems, sensor networks, robotics, or edge AI models
• Publications, patents, or open-source contributions in relevant technical areas
• Builder's mindset: ability to read wiring diagrams, CAD drawings, or data files and immediately identify optimization opportunities
