About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential aerospace organization at the forefront of advanced propulsion development. Our client is seeking a Propulsion Functional Engineer to join their engine development team in Munich, Germany. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on cutting-edge cryogenic propulsion systems and contribute to the functional architecture of next-generation rocket engines.

As a member of the System Team, you will define how subsystems integrate and interact to meet mission-critical performance requirements. This role combines systems engineering discipline with hands-on modeling and validation work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to architecture trade-off studies, sensitivity analyses, risk assessments, and component selection decisions for propulsion systems
  • Evaluate and optimize engine architecture and operating conditions to meet performance targets
  • Develop and maintain functional performance models using simulation frameworks such as EcosimPro and Python
  • Define and allocate functional requirements for the engine and its subsystems
  • Conduct FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to ensure system architecture meets reliability and safety standards
  • Define demonstrator architectures and operating conditions for testing campaigns
  • Analyze test data and validate system models against empirical results

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline (or Bachelor's degree with substantial relevant experience)
  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience working with cryogenic propulsion systems
  • Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics
  • Fluency in English
  • Basic knowledge of aerospace standards (e.g., ECSS, NASA guidelines)
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools (e.g., EcosimPro) and/or Python scripting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in German or French
  • Hands-on experience developing hardware from concept to working prototypes
