About This Opportunity

Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a well-funded European clean energy technology organization based in Munich. We're seeking a Microwave Design Engineer to join their heating systems team working on advanced plasma physics applications.

This role offers the chance to design and validate high-power millimeter wave components operating at extreme specifications—temperatures exceeding 100 million degrees, MW-scale RF loads, and frequencies around 200 GHz. You'll work at the intersection of RF engineering, thermal-mechanical design, and cutting-edge physics as part of a rapidly scaling technical team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize high-power RF components for millimeter wave systems operating at approximately 200 GHz
  • Collaborate with physicists to ensure RF component designs meet plasma physics and thermal-mechanical constraints
  • Develop integrated RF and thermo-mechanical solutions, evaluating both internal designs and vendor proposals
  • Perform mechanical and thermal analysis under complex loads including vacuum, magnetic fields, extreme temperatures, and MW-scale RF power
  • Contribute to multi-scale and multi-physics simulations, prototyping, and laboratory testing of first-of-a-kind components
  • Interface RF systems with other technical subsystems as part of a larger integrated project
  • Work with project management teams to deliver components on aggressive timelines

What We're Looking For

  • Strong RF engineering background with specific experience in millimeter wave design
  • Demonstrated proficiency with RF modeling tools such as SURF3D, CST, COMSOL, GdfidL, openEMS, or custom-developed codes at 200 GHz frequencies
  • Experience validating novel designs with uncertain performance through testing and prototyping
  • Track record working on multi-scale and multi-physics simulations as part of collaborative teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • Experience with gyrotrons and associated components (transmission systems, launcher antennas, RF loads) is highly valued
  • Background in plasma physics applications is a plus
